Fresh Sugar Perfume

 Tuesday, July 17, 2012

So I went to Sephora with my husband again recently, and I thought I would really be swiping my card like crazy. Instead, I only bought ONE item, but only because I have spent a lot on other wedding-related stuff, so I held a tight restraint on myself. There was the Naked 2 palette (not sure I am going to buy it though!), lot of sale stuff from Pop cosmetics (they had an Eyeliner Palette set!), so many yummy looking sets from Soap & Glory, lip tint + lip treatment combinations from Burt's Bees... ahhh. But what REALLY, REALLY attracted me was the sets they have from Fresh! There was a Brown Sugar perfume + sugar lip treatment + body scrub. Ahhhh, if they only had similar sets for the other perfumes in the range!

I love this perfume so much that I've actually blogged about it before here. I always thought that they only had Brown Sugar & Sugar Lychee perfume (because that's what I saw in Sephora Singapore, when I bought this perfume). In fact, they have like, 18 different perfumes! What they actually *had* in Sephora KLCC that day was Brown Sugar, Sugar Lychee, Sugar Lemon and Hesperides. I tested all of them and THEY WERE ALL SO AMAZING. I actually felt like buying the other 3 perfumes straight away!

If you're a citrus fragrance lover like me, you would so love this range as much as I do! The other 3 scents are so refreshing and unique, you just can't go wrong.
Brown Sugar is features amber, honeysuckle, peach and cypress, smells really sweet and more musky compared to the others. I didn't like it the first time I smelled it (which was why I got Sugar Lychee), but the more I encounter it, the more it grows on me.

Sugar Lemon is also calling out to me. So zesty and invigorating! Top notes are bergamot, yuzu and mandarin, no lemon at all, surprisingly! :) It smells really light though. I might just get the roller version of this perfume so that I can have Sugar Lemon on-the-go.

Hesperides was a "what the heck is a Hesperides?" perfume, but it's very fruity floral and surprisingly good. I was afraid it would smell too exotic for me, but in fact it's another citrusy fragrance. Apparently, that's what Fresh does best and they stick to it. Top notes are lemon, orange and grapefruit. So ironic that Hesperides has lemon in the top notes and Sugar Lemon doesn't. Hmm... I thought Brown Sugar would've been my next perfume purchase, but Hesperides is really giving it a run for my money. :P  This is really saying a lot because I don't buy perfumes! I have like 20 bottles on my table!

There's also a Sake shower gel at the KLCC counter, but I personally don't think it smells good! I'm looking forward to them bringing Strawberry Flowers scent to KLCC... it sounds really promising. Wondering would they have a Hesperides set like the Brown Sugar set they already have? Fingers crossed!

Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint in Perpetual Plum

 Monday, July 9, 2012

Saw this in the drugstore and always thought of buying it, but now I get to review it for free thanks to Yuberactive! What is it? It's Rimmel's latest lip tint called "1000 Kisses" and it's in Perpetual Plum. I am a bit wary of having PURPLE lips, but it's not really purpley at all! Anyway, what differentiates this from other lip stains / lip glosses is the fact that it comes in a "marker" like form! You really feel like you are taking a pen and coloring in your lips. Weird? Wacky? Cool? Innovative? You decide!

To be honest, I don't quite like this product. Maybe I'm getting old, I think this "technology" is too "new" for me. I don't like the feeling of drawing on my lips at all! The biggest drawback for me is that the cover feels too loose! The cover came off in my bag and there's splotches of "perpetual plum" all over my bag!! Grr!

I've only used it twice since I got this product. Once as a first time test trial, and one more just for the "photoshoot" used in this review. The color is alright for me, but I feel that it doesn't last very long. Also, I have very dry lips, so it's totally a NO NO for me to wear this lip tint by itself. I really need something more moisturising. If you wear this lip stain without any other lip balm applied first, you can see all the horrible cracks in your lips. Yucks! Hence, for the pictures below, I applied Blistex first before the lip tint. Maybe this causes the color to look different compared to other reviewers...

In this picture where I'm holding the lip stian, the original lip color is on the top lip and the bottom lip has been colored in. I don't think it's a really deep shade, so don't be scared off by the "Perpetual Plum" name!

And this is me after! This lip tint pen costs RM29.90, which I do feel is a bit pricey. However, if you're into trying new things, this might just be up your alley. However, I think I have way less than 1000 - 2 kisses on this pen because of it staining my bag when the cap fell off! One thing that *did* impress me about that incident was that when I found the lip tint, capless... I was so afraid that it had "dried" up because it was left without a cap for so long. Miraculously, it was all ok, so that is at least ONE good thing about this product for me. :)

Maybe it's only me who had a bad experience! Everyone else who reviewed this seemed to love it! :O

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish in Flirt

 Sunday, July 8, 2012

Thanks to Yuberactive, I got to review Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear "HARD AS NAILS" nail polish in "Flirt". I was happy to be able to review this dark shade of nail polish because it's really different from the other nail polishes I have, which are in bright, cheery colors. I don't think I've tried such a dark and sophisticated color before! I do, however, think that "Flirt" doesn't seem like such a suitable name for this color. I would think it would suit a pink shade more, don't you think?

Anyway, enough about the names of the shade, this is how it ACTUALLY looks like :

Yes, it's a very, very, very dark purple shade. As always, with Sally Hansen nail polishes, it is SUPER easy to put on. I don't know what they did with their brush, I think they idiot-proofed it! I rarely make a mess of my nails when I'm using Sally Hansen!

The nail polish lasts me for about 4-5 days before it begins chipping. I find that pretty good, as even when it chips, it's not a lot. A few brushes will get it back looking brand new again. A plus point with this nail polish - I really do feel that it makes my nails stronger / harder. All this for a very affordable RM19.90. Worth it or what?

I would say that this is worth a repurchase. I just love this shade! I didn't think it was "me" at first, but I like this sophisticated and glamorous version too. It's much better for the office than my other happy colors too!

Alpro Sales!

 Tuesday, July 3, 2012

So I stopped by Alpro in Jaya 33 to get something for my sinus problems, and I saw their "sales" counter. Stuff up to 50% off! If you ever thought of trying out Silkygirl, you should check out the sales bin in Alpro. There's sooooo many stuff from Silkygirl for about RM10 - eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses... I *might* go back to check it out later. The only reason why I didn't grab some immediately is because I've had a bad experience with Silkygirl eyeliners, so I'm still kinda doubting them. :P

Anyhoooo, I still got a few items:

Got the huge ass bottle of Dettol for only RM12.50. It's one of my husband's favorite range from Dettol, except he usually doesn't buy it cos it's in a feminine pink color. Hehehe!

I also got a smallllll sample size of Soap & Scent handmade soap (Mangosteen). I've thought of buying the full-size one before because I'm such a fan of homemade soaps (with lots of yummy natural ingredients!), but decided to just get a small sample first. It's RM4, hope I get bang for my buck. It smells really nice though!!

Finally, I got an RM10 lipstick from Revlon. It's in a really dark red shade called "Bali Brown" (strangely). I really think it looks more red than it is brown! I bought it because I always raved about how irresistable Nyx lipsticks are because they are so cheap. Well, a discounted Revlon lipstick is always welcome too. Too bad they only have this in one shade! Bali Brown - take it or leave it.

Body Shop Sales Pt 2

 Monday, July 2, 2012

I know, I know... I'm so darn behind in posting on this website. I'm still very much into drugstore beauty products, and I still have so, so much to try out (so blessed!), but I have been very busy at work and with my personal life. I have a lot of "empties" as well, but I'm not really good at keeping track of my stuff! *ashamed*

Anyway, I'm trying to kickstart this again, so here's more stuff that I succumbed to during my absence... and yes, this was in the Body Shop sales that I was talking about earlier! :D

i. Sweet Lemon Shower Gel - 50% off! It's a really huge bottle (750ml). The invigorating, refreshing citrus scent already makes me feel so excited to use it in the mornings! :D

ii. Ice Blue Shampoo - it is actually for men, but again... it smells so freaking nice and invigorating that I just had to buy it! If it turns out unsuitable for my hair, I'll just give it to my husband. He likes these kinda scents too!

iii.  Pear & Lemongrass shower gel - I know I wrote about how bad the shampoo was, but the smell of this pear & lemongrass shower gel smells amazing. It's uber unique too! How often have you heard of pear shower gel?

iv. Seaweed deep cleansing facial gel - My friend Kim bought me the seaweed set for my birthday some time ago, and I liked it so much that I just had to get this again when I saw it on 50% off.

v. Elderflower eye gel - just want to try out because I am desperate for good eye gels! Get rid of them eyebags and be pretty for my wedding. :O

Monday Masks : Sexy Doll Intensively Brightening & Whitening Mask

 Monday, June 18, 2012

Have been really busy at work, and it causes my skin to get neglected. Occasionally, will indulge in a mask or two in the work week in order to help my skin. Of course, the best things for your skin are actually sleep, water and less stress! If I had al 3, I bet I would save a whole lot more on skincare!

I found this mask when I was in Singapore - Sexy Doll mask. I had no idea what was so sexy about the packaging, but hey, if it promises to make a haggard me look like a Sexy Doll, I'll give it a go for sure. ;) Forgot how much it costs, but it was pretty pricey for a mask...

From the packaging, I cannot tell what each mask is used for. I have to some english translation at the back. So this hot pink packaged mask is for intensive brightening and whitening. It is a sheet mask with essence though they make it sound quite classy by calling it a "silk" mask. Quite a lot of essence inside actually!

So here is my haggard "before" picture :

Argh, looks damn bad right! This is my "aunty" / "housewife" look after a hard day's work. :P You can see a few pimples here and there and a really dry patch of skin on my chin. To be honest, I should've used a moisturising mask or something, not really the time for whitening & brightening! I was actually just feeling bored and wanted to try something different. =)

The fit of the mask is not bad, give it a "B" effort in trying to get the best fit for the consumers. But one very vital thing that I can't stand about this mask... it is damn smelly!! It smells VERY acidic, as if I am really putting hydrochloric acid on my face! Argghhh! I suspect that there is probably something acidic / bleachy about the mask because it does sting a little! Maybe that's how they make you "intensively whiter"... by bleaching! Ok, this is complete heresay, don't sue me! :P

Yes, you can see how SOAKED the mask it! Really a lot of that bleachy-essence in there!

And finally, here's a picture of me AFTER the mask therapy session :

Having said all the mean stuff about acidity and using bleach on the face, I was actually pleasantly surprised with the results. I really did feel that I became fairer after just one use! The red patch on my chin was gone, and the pimples also became less apparent. Promise that I didn't Photoshop anything! Yes, I still look aunty-ish, I don't have the time to throw on a cocktail dress and contact lens to camwhore for the "after" image! =P

For better comparison, here's a side-by-side before and after collage:

Do you feel that there's a difference?

Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Cooling Toner

 Thursday, June 14, 2012

Back in my  War on Blackheads day, I bought the entire "Blackhead Eliminating" range from Neutrogena. The face wash is long gone, but the toner is barely 50% finished. ~_~"

You might be wondering - why is this toner more "blackhead eliminating" than a regular toner? Well, this toner contains "Blackhead Fighting Complex", a special BHA ingredient to remove dead skin cells and control excessive oil. Cedarwood extract and moisturisers help strenghten the skin's natural water and oil balance, and prevents new blackheads from forming with continuous use.

I know that it is possible to get blackheads on your forehead, T-zone, even on your cheeks, but I mainly use this on my nose, right before I use my Cellnique Sebum Action Gel. Yes, just my nose, maybe that's why it takes me so long to finish this 200ml bottle! I don't know whether it is the toner that is helping me or the Sebum Action Gel, but I do find that my blackheads on my nose are a lot less than it was last time.

However, recently the blackheads on my nose are starting to seem more apparent than usual. I am not sure whether it's psychological (because I've been so busy at work that I had no time to really pamper myself / do facials) or because all this is just short term. Sigh...

In case you're wondering if toners are REALLY necessary, check out this link : Is Toner Necessary? In short, the answer is - only if your skin is really oily and you feel that your cleanser isn't doing good enough a job to remove every single last trace of your make-up. For me, I find that toner can occasionally even make my skin feel DRIER... :(

To be frank, I am married and I will soon be moving in to my husband's house. He sleeps with air-conditioning on, and air-conditioning really dries my skin out. I am hoping that he will be willing to suffer and allow me to continue sleeping with just the fan on. Otherwise, my skin will really dry out... my whole skincare range would need to change!
