Monday Masks : Dermal Royal Jelly Collagen Sheet Mask

 Monday, June 3, 2013

This is the last of my Dermal collection in my stash, but due to the attractive promotions that they usually have for this brand in Watsons Singapore, I might get them again IF I visit the neighbouring country again. =) Out of the 5 masks that I've used, I've liked MOST of them, especially the apricot and apple one. This royal jelly one that I used wasn't as memorable (maybe because it has not much of a scent), but as always, I always feel my skin is more moisturised and pampered after a session with the mask. ^^

The function for this royal jelly mask is for feeding nutrition to the skin, moisturising and refining. You often hear about people eating royal jelly for beautiful skin, but I really wonder how good is it just applied directly to the skin? Royal jelly has strong antibacterial properties that is used in a multitude of beauty products. Royal jelly has strong healing properties that is thought to help reverse the process of aging by improving the texture and tone of the skin. Royal jelly also has highly moisturising properties that help tighten fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin feeling soft and supple.

Sounds exciting, doesn't it? Apparently the Egyptians have been in on the secrets of royal jelly for a very long time. Using this secret product to protect their skin against the harsh desert conditions. Well, Malaysia isn't really a desert, but it's still very hot here, and anything to reverse time and get back younger-looking skin, right?

 The mask is really thick and is not a super good fit, but with just RM3 per mask, I am more than pleased with the results. Looking forward to a new haul from Dermal next round! ^^

Monday Masks : Dermal Kiwi Collagen Sheet Mask

 Monday, October 8, 2012

As far as cheap masks go, I really do like the Dermal series. I always feel really moisturised after using the sheet mask and the fit is really good! Must remind myself to grab more the next time I'm in Watsons Singapore! Sure, not all of them are super good like the South of France Apricot (or something like that) mask from My Beauty Diary, which is like, my ultimate fave sheet mask ever.

The Kiwi Collagen sheet mask from Dermal is not bad ... but rather unmemorable. I expected more of it, expecting it to be more fruity, but there really wasn't much of a smell. Nothing much to say after 4 similar reviews on the Dermal series, so far, I only really like the apple collagen mask and the apricot one.

The kiwi collagen mask is suitable for all skin types and  is touted to make your tired skin more elastic, mositurised and clear. It is a mild mask for brightening and nutrition.  Whenever there is "brightening" the mask stings! It made me think that there must be some bleaching ingredient of some sort. But then I found out that when there's vitamin C in the sheet mask, vitamin C contains natural acids that will exfoliate your skin. This is why some people say their skin "glows" or "feels smoother" after the mask! Aside from the high vitamin C content, I tried to search for benefits of kiwi fruit for your skin... and it generally says that you eat the fruit. Not sure if it works when you just lay it on your face. -_-" Kiwi fruit contains high amounts of vitamin E & vitamin C and antioxidants that will help slow down the aging process.

Monday Masks : Dermal Red Ginseng Collagen Essence Mask

 Monday, August 27, 2012

I've been using lots of masks and totally falling behind in keeping my beauty blog updated. :x One of the main reasons could be me using a LOT of masks when my wedding was coming up, and I wasn't blogging much then either. So, I end up with a backlog of entries! At the same time, I continue to buy and use sheet masks, hah. It's neverending! I thought my husband would "control" me more by asking me to stop buying stuff. But just the other day we passed by this new Korean skincare store and he actually encouraged me to go in and check the products out! He said, "Hey, look they have a deal on sheetmasks. You like those, don't you?" *fainted* Will blog more about the masks and the store later, but anyway, that was totally shocking for me. Plus, when I was there, I fell in love with one of their argan oil hair serum. O_O Must restrain self!

Anyway, am here to review the Dermal Red Ginseng Mask. Have had pretty good time with the Dermal masks, as I have reviewed before here. Was pretty keen to try the "red ginseng" as it's not something you usually see being promoted in masks! Well, this one is suitable for all skin types and is apparently good for FIRMING and BRIGHTENING. Technically, I reckon I'm still young, so I don't need the "firming", and brightening is more of to even the skintone and not so much about bleaching your skin / turning yourself 2 shades lighter. Dull skin (from lack of exercise, sunlight, and the ilk) could do with a booster shot of brightening essence!

As with all Dermal masks that I bought, it also contains COLLAGEN and VITAMIN E which helps to increase skin elasticity. Again - not sure if it is effective when absorbed through the skin. I think it's better if you actually take collagen pills / drinks.

The fit of the mask is quite good, in my books. However, this mask is definitely not for me! I couldn't stand the "medicinal" smell of the ginseng! It made me smell like my grandma! Skin felt slightly more moisturised after using, but nothing significant in terms of brightening. Will not be a repurchase for me for this particular scent, but will definitely buy other "flavors" in this range.

Did a bit more research and found out that Red Ginseng is more suitable as a facial aid for AGING skin due to it's antioxidant properties. Now I know that taking care of your skin's AGING should start when you're young (when you're old, it's basically too late for tears), but test results apparently show the best results for red ginseng on women age 40 and above. Yes, even for skincare and not taking it orally. Perhaps you could consider it if you are in this age range!

Dermal Apricot Collagen Mask

 Thursday, March 1, 2012

My second Dermal mask! I think I have at least another 5 more. Well, when there's mask on sale, I'm always sure to grab more than one. Dermal is one brand that I'm glad my greed paid off! :)

Sorry for the bad picture, didn't realise my hands were shakey! Anyway, as previously reported, Dermal masks have a few good points, namely :
* a lot of essence in the packet! Not stingy at all
* a pretty good fit for my face!
* the scent is awesome

The apricot scent for this mask is divine! It reminds me of the (more expensive) My Beauty Diary Apricot mask. It's a very natural, fruity scent. Nothing overwhelming or fake-y about it. Total thumbs up for this. I would buy this mask again just for the scent!

The Apricot Collagen mask says that it will make your tired skin more moisturised, relaxed and clear. Personally, I found it rather enjoyable to use (maybe because of the scent), so I did feel more relaxed. Not particularly SUPER moisturising (seriously, I've only found the "very moisturised" effect using MBD masks)... but not a bad mask considering the price.

Looking forward to reviewing my other 5 Dermal masks! :P

Dermal Apple Collagen Essence Mask

 Tuesday, January 10, 2012

After using the subpar Skinlite masks, I mentioned that I would recommend cheaper masks that actually DO the job. One such mask that I had the luck to encounter is Dermal. I am not sure if it is an in-house brand from Watsons... for some reason, I got that impression. Anyway, masks mix all kinds of good stuff with Vitamin E and Collagen. You will notice that they state 20g Vitamin E and 3g of Collagen in each packet. I'm not sure if the measurements change, but all the masks that I have state this. :)

The first mask that I tried from the range is the Apple Collagen Essence Mask, which is good for :
* soothing
* convergence (I have no idea what this means in this context!!)
* firming

The product claims to make your tired skin more elastic, moistened and clear. It is suitable for all skin types.

As everyone knows - Vitamin E & Collagen are popular products in skincare industry, known for treatment from anywhere between treating scarring to improving skin elasticity. However, I have my doubts on whether these essences can be absorbed through the skin. The product claims that it is highly concentrated and contains other chemicals that help increase penetration... hmmm. What do you think?

There was a lot of essence in the packet and I found the fit of the mask pretty good. Not the best I've ever had, but not bad. The apple "scent" in the packet was a bit too sharp at first, but after the initial shock, it was quite pleasant! Very natural and fresh! Really thumbs up for the scent. It's different from the usual sweet / floral scents you usually get with face masks.

After 20 minutes, my skin felt more moisturised and fresh, but there was not much change in terms of firming or soothing as my skin wasn't horribly UNfirm or inflamed in the first place...

All in all, quite worth the RM3 I paid for this mask!
