Lush Haul Across US, HK & UK

 Sunday, May 22, 2011

I love Lush. I love the way they promote the products. I like the "handmade" quality of every single item. I love the quirkiness, I love their helpful & friendly sales people. I love the packaging and I love how effective the products are. And how gooooood they smell. :) I've gotten Lush stuff when I was in HK, in US and in UK. I find it sad that they have Lush in Sri Lanka, but not in Malaysia. The nearest Lush to me is HK! When I go there in September this year, I'm going to stock up like mad, lol!

Here are some of the things I've bought over the years:

1) Demon In The Dark Soap
An invigorating minty apple, I loved showering with it even though I'm more of a shower gel type of person. I used this soap down to the smallest slivers. It's actually more of a man's soap, but I preferred the description for the demon in the dark than other more "feminine" scents. Might get it again as it is quite affordable at £2.99/100g. Oh, and demon in the dark is covered with a black waxy kinda thing to keep the soap fresh. However, I didn't know, so the first time I used it, I was wondering what kind of crap soap did I get that didn't foam up (much) and that had such a yucky waxy feeling. Lol! So when you buy YOUR demon in the dark, remember to peel all that black outerlayer off!

2. Angels on Bare Skin
This is one of those "bestsellers" from Lush. It's kind of like a face cleanser, but it's VERY VERY mild. Thanks to the almond oil, you get a really soft skin when you're finished, and also thanks to the bits of almond inside this, you get some gentle exfoliation.

The only reason why I won't stock up on this is because :
~ I don't like the "oily"-ish feeling I get on my skin after using this item. If you like oil-based cleansers, then you should really get this!

~ I don't like the packaging for this item... it's really hard to keep this item properly. I was always so scared that fungus would start growing inside this container.

3. Coalface
Currently using this item, and I'll update more when I use it. This one is good if you have oily skin because charcoal is useful for absorbing excess sebum. There's also tiny bits of charcoal dust inside, so it doubles up as a exfoliator. I also bought it because I thought it would be fun to use (imagining myself with a black face, wtf). Lush *does* warn that it can be messy to use. However, it's not messy at all. The only problem I have with this is that the soap is hard to keep... it cracked and looks very ugly now that it has "touched water" so to speak.

One thing about Lush products, especially the soaps.. you have to use it ASAP because it will dry out badly if you store it for a long time. That's why I can't really stock up on too many soaps. :(

4. Coconut powder
Bought it but haven't used yet. =p

5. Coco Lotion
Using Coco Lotion as a daytime moisturiser guaranteed soft and smooth skin, delectable to the touch. The only reason why I won't buy this again is because it smells a bit funny, not really used to the coconut oil smell. Thought it would smell more fruity (since there is pineapple juice added), but it was coconut oil all the way. If you like that kinda smell, this would be perfect for you as it really works x10000%. It also claims to brighten skin, but for me it was just a really, really good moisturiser.

6. Mirror Mirror
Neck cream, but you spread it all the way down to your decolletage. It smells a bit strong, but after getting used to the exotic and heady orchid scent, I love it. It's a very sexy smell, so I love to use it before going to bed. If you think it's silly to moisturise your NECK, well, the skin there is actually pretty sensitive and prone to showing "your real age". Sadly for me, it looks like they've discontinued this product (Can't find it on their website), but if I see it in HK, I'm going to stock up on this!

7. The Olive Branch
I nearly typed this as "the oily branch", and yes, this is a rather oily shower gel! Hahaha... it's veryyyyy mild and gentle on the skin. It doesn't latter up much and seems to quickly slide all over your skin, leaving a deliciously soft and snuggly feeling, like new babies in soft fleece blankets. The smell is ... kind of non descript. I find this shower gel good to use before you sleep at night, to get you in a cosy mood. If you need a fresh perk me up in the morning, this is not the one to use. I mighttttt get it again, but I really have a problem with oily-ish residue on the skin. ~_~"

8. Rub Rub Rub
This used to come in the same type of bottle as the above (e.g: Olive Branch), but it seems like they've changed it into the container form instead. This is REALLY good for exfoliating because it is chockfull of salt crystals. To me, it smells a bit too... detergent-y, not really the "Refreshing" type of feeling. But yes, you can get a really good scrub with this one.... I find it more of a scrub than a shower gel! Like after scrubbing with this, you still need a shower gel. I was very sad when the shower gel container popped in my gym bag and spilled out like 10% of the sea salt. What a waste! It's pretty pricey!

9. Vanilla Dee-lite
As mentioned, Lush never disappoints me on the body moisturiser front. A little bit of vanilla dee-lite goes a long way. It keeps my skin feeling silky smooth from morning til evening, and constant use of this product is what has made my skin more soft to the touch. The scent would be great for vanilla fans... I'm not really a vanilla fan, but I would say that this smelled better than the Coco Lotion one. Plus, I prefer packaging like the above (in bottle form) than to dip my hands into a tub.

10. American Cream
...is the BEST conditioner EVER. It smells lovely, and really makes your hair softer and more luscious. I can't even begin to describe how awesome a conditioner it is, other than to tell you that I bought the 500g one for more than 12 pounds. I think that's probably the most expensive conditioner that I've ever bought in my life.

I have to warn you that it doesn't really smell that fruity though it claims to contain honey, vanilla, strawberries and oranges, but it is a nice scent. Very fresh. After using the decadent American Cream, sometimes when I turn my head and get a whiff of my hair, I feel soooo luscious and fresh and clean. Lol! I can't explain the feeling except that after that I'll look like a mad woman constantly whipping her head left and right to catch whiffs of my own hair...

11. I Love Juicy
Tried the smallest bottle of I Love Juicy, just in case it wasn't good. I was disappointed that it didn't smell fruity enough for me. Thanks to the citrus oils, it gives a squeaky clean feeling after washing, but I think it could be a bit harsh on the hair if I didn't have the wonderful American Cream to condition it afterwords.

12. Rehab
The first time I tried Rehab was when I was in Macau. The previous few days, I was in HK and stayed in a really cramped inn. When I reached Macau, we stayed in a pricier hotel, and I could actually use my Rehab shampoo (before that, bathing was a torture in a tiny bathroom which is only slightly bigger than my body, lol). When I finally got to use Rehab after 3 days of no shampooing and generally feeling grotty from not washing my hair when I had been touring around HK... the feeling was completely HEAVENLY. It's like my hair screamed out in ecstasy... hahaha. It felt so delicious and the smell of Rehab was invigorating to me. My friends hate the smell of Rehab because they said it smelled toooooo "medicine-y" to them.

After finishing Rehab, I stocked up on it again when I went to US / UK (don't remember which), but the magic was gone the second time round. I mean, I still get the squeaky clean feeling from using this shampoo, but I didn't get the screams of ecstasy anymore. Hahaha. Still, I might buy this again if I have $$ to spare.

13. Sakura Bath Bomb
These bath bombs (or more like bath fizzes) are a little disappointing to me because they didn't really react as violently to water as I expected. The smell was a bit detergent-y to me, so soaking in detergent-y smelling water wasn't the best experience ever. I suppose it satisfied my curiosity over how these bath bombs work, but probably will not be getting another one!

14. Candy Fluff
Haven't *really* used this item as I can't get used to the sickly sweet smell. There's supposed to be some sparkly stuff inside as well, so I reckon I should only use it for special occasions when I'm going to be lightly dusting my decolletage and showing off them sparklies. Hahaha. It's pointless if it's only going to be on my pits. Who wants sparkly pits?

A lot of people say that they find the smell addictive though, so maybe this would rock your boat. It seems like US and UK aren't selling this anymore though.

15. Running to The Embassy
This is a foot scrub that is minty and refreshing. It's definitely awesome to use if you've been on your feet for the whole day! The tiny exfoliation beads really work through the dead skin and leaves feet feeling softer, smooter and up for more activity!

The only bad part about this is that I find it very hard to store. The picture shows a solid and yummy looking bar that you could easily rub all over your feet. However, maybe due to Malaysian weather, my bar has become all mushy and definitely does not look as delicious as the above picture. Thank goodness I bought a Lush tin to keep it inside, but it makes me mad that I have to buy a specific container just to store it. Hahaha. The bar can keep for a long time though, you don't have to use it everyday. I use it whenever I want to give my feet a treat... and because of how hard it is to give yourself a foot spa, this isn't very often...

16. Bb Seaweed Fresh Face Mask
Free gift from Lush USA because I bought so much stuff! I really really do not like the smell because seaweed is NOT tops in my books as skincare stuff. Also, hard to keep because you have to keep it refrigerated. As I was going to go back to Malaysia and definitely cannot handcarry this, I used it all over my face... and body!

Despite not liking the smell, skin feels softer and smoother after the mask... just wish the "mask" experience was more delicious smelling! Also, hated cleaning out the bits of seaweed in the bath after that!

17. Mask of Magnaminty
Received this as a free gift from Lush Macau, also because I bought a lot of stuff. Hahaha. I used it together with my friend Pauline before we entered Babylon Casino. It's definitely a minty and refreshing mask, wonderful because we had been travelling and this mask felt like a spa treatment in the middle of our holiday! However, the funny green color was a bit off putting for me.... skin felt smoother after that, and maybe calmed down my skin that was getting burnt in the hot sun.

I really like this mask, but can't buy more as mentioned, it's hard to keep!

18. Whoosh Temple Balm
Use it for to invigorate yourself, thanks to the whiff of citrus oils and what not. You can use it just for a sniff, or to rub onto your temples. It sounded very good on paper, and at first, I did so enjoy looking like I was inhaling snuff... but the temple balm dried up pretty quick, and now it has a rather sharp smell that will definitely invigorate you, but not in a good way.

I gave my boyfriend a sniff and he nearly puked.... hahah. But I have to say this was the best temple balms in the range.... I *really* do not like their Karma range, even though they say that it's a bestseller.

19. Bohemian soap
It's a citrus based soap, lemon oils specifically. I guess it was alright, but not memorable for me as I totally forgot I had bought it before and was contemplating to buy it under my "want to stock up on" section! However, I also remember not having any untoward reactions or thoughts towards Lush soaps... just guess it was not as outstanding as Demon in the Dark...

20. Retread
Is supposed to be the better conditioner compared to American Cream, as it is for "seriously abused" hair. I prefer American Cream because :
- packaging ... Retread comes in a tub
- smell ... Retread smells more "vegetable-like". It's not unpleasant, but I prefer the creamy edible-ness of American cream.
I don't remember Retread doing as much wonders for my hair as American Cream!

However, a lot of people swear by this, so maybe you would like to give it a try. For me, I'm sticking with AC. :)

21. Yummy Yummy Yummy
A strawberries and cream scented shower gel that is not really memorable. Just simple and sweet, but now that I've tried it, I want to move on to bigger things. :P

Stuff I might stock up on come September:

For a lemon based soap, maybe I should get Sexy Peel instead? It's slightly more expensive than Bohemian, but filled with what looks like citrus peel as well for a little bit more scrub / exfoliation for your skin!

Ice Blue soap --- simple (compared to their more complicated concoctions) and sounds wonderfully refreshing. Can't wait to dive into all that spearminty goodness!

Miranda soap is a fruity type of soap, mainly oranges and kiwi fruits. I love how colorful it is..

The Godmother soap claims that it will give you really soft skin. I'm a bit doubtful about this because it says it smells like bubblegum. Anything that's too artficial and I'll bolt, but hopefully it'll smell sweet, but not overly sweet. Get what I mean?

Was debating between the Gorgeous face cream, or the Imperalis or the Celestial and decided that one can't stinge when it comes to the skin. So Imma splurge on this £35.95/45g beauty. Hopefully I really will feel gorgeous with this. Lush has never let me down in terms of their moisturisers...

Dream Cream is one of their best sellers for body moisturisers. It seems like it's going to smell very yummy too - with chamomile and lavender. =)

I've smelled "Honey I washed the kids" before, and I truly, truly love it. However, that time I had already picked up a LOT of Lush stuff and I didn't want to have too many things that I couldn't use before the expiry date. I'll let the website do the hardsell to you : "The irresistible toffee and honey soap. Once you've sniffed it, you've got to have it. On paper, it's difficult to portray the full effect of this honeycomb and toffee scented soap. People who fully intended to walk past a Lush shop find themselves unable to resist its tempting fragrance. They inhale, drool, pick up a big chunk and join the queue for the till. It's hard not to buzz about this one."

I remember smelling Sultana of Soap and it was delicious and tempting, but it was a bit pricier than the Demon in the Dark. I hate how tempting all these soaps sound, but they are so expensive! Argh! I have to whittle down my choices if I don't want to end up bankrupt (but smelling really good).

I don't remember whether I smelled this one before --- the Flying Fox claims to be a decadent mix of honey and sensual jasmine. As you can tell, I like honey based / honey smelling shower gels, so the Flying Fox shower gel with 4 different types of honey sounds very promising!

... or should I get the Dirty Springwash instead? It is the invigorating type of shower gel with spearmint and menthol crystals. This is a new product, haven't seen it before this. It also looks like something that I can share with my boyfriend, hahaha! =)
Thinking of rewarding my boyfriend with a loving backrub... with one of their massage bars! Since it's a guy, I want something more asexual (the glitterbug is cute, but I don't think my boyfriend wants to be glittering). I think Each Peach is a good choice, but do you think it would be too fruity for a guy? And it doesn't have a lot of extra exfoliating bits...

My personal haul collection photos :

You can see the Whoosh temple balm & Demon in the Dark soap in the bottom right corner. This was my haul in UK (first part)

Huge haul from UK back in 2009! Bohemian Soap, Coalface cleanser, Mirror Mirror neck cream, American Cream conditioner (the biggest bottle they have!), Coconut body powder, I Love Juicy shampoo, Yummy Yummy Yummy shower gel. Free one bottle of Vanilla Dee-Lite and Coco Lotion body moisturiser.

Proof that the mask of magnaminty leaves you green in color. A woman from China came into the toilet (while we were waiting for the mask to set) and said (what I later found out), “Scared people to death!”

Me with the BB Seaweed mask...

Lush Loot from my Hong Kong / Macau trip.

Lush Loot from California. I didn't get to use the Gold Star one cos I gave it to someone else.

Are you a Lushaholic? Recommend me some products! :D
