Yuberactive Review : Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara

 Thursday, May 31, 2012

Another free product thanks to Yuberactive - the Rimmel Sexy Curves Full Body Mascara! I am always on the lookout for GOOD mascaras because I'm really too lazy to wear false lashes. Is there any mascara that can give me such results? Let's find out if this one does it! :)

The uniqueness of this mascara is in the wand! It looks like 3 little balls, haha. I don't know how to explain how it helps create "Full Figured" lashes, so I'll quote from the Yuberactive website - "The first Triple Plump brush with 3 x the curves for 70% curlier lashes. Voluptuous brush with CurveControl technology wiggles easily through your lashes quickly coating them." It definitely caught my attention attention with the unique wand. HOWEVER... either my lashes are so short or cannot-be-helped already because I couldn't capture distinct "before and after" images for this entry.

I did notice that if I use eyeliner, mascara doesn't even look noticeable in pictures. O_O" So for it to look even SLIGHTLY more noticeable, I decided to do a "fresh face" look for this series. No eyeliner at all, and only mascara. Could it replace my eyeliner as a "go to" product.

This is a picture of me with blusher & lipbalm, eyeshadow and no eyeliner or mascara.

Before picture on top and after picture at the bottom. Like no difference right?

Before and after picture side profile... slightly more curve out. Has a slightly "eye opening" effect. Quite nice!

After picture... like no difference only right. Sigh... mascara is not for me! Maybe next time I will do an entry on how I will look like with FAKE lashes only. :)

Smiling, but actually slightly disappointed with this product. Well, it's not Rimmel's fault, I really think my eyelashes are just purely "cannot be helped" anymore. :( Costs RM29.90, guess not a repurchase for me.

Yuberactive Review : Sally Hansen Magenta Motion Insta-Dri Nail Polish

 Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Thanks to Yuberactive, I got to review the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish in Magenta Motion! Thank you Yuberactive! :D I always associate Sally Hansen as being one of the top nail polishes in the industry. They've been around for what feels like forever, so I reckon that they've probably had a lot of time to R&D and make the best nail polishes. Also, since I had a bad experience with the french manicure set from them, I was hoping to get some "refund" in the form of this free nail polish. :P :p :P

The 9.17 ml bottle of nail polish costs RM27.90 in your local drugstores. The shade looks like a deep plum color in the bottle. Very suitable for festive occasions, guaranteed to grab attention wherever you go. But what really attracted me was the "INSTA-DRI" claim --- I am an impatient girl and I can't wait for my nails to dry. I like to move around, and I hate sitting and waiting, afraid to smudge something. This would be perfect!

I am absolutely loving the fat little brush. It made painting my nails oh-so-easy. I just need about 3 swipes to cover my big toe and about one swipe for each toe after that! Quick, simple and easy.  The coverage is also REALLY good, so one coat was good enough for me.

Freshly painted toenails! See how bright the color is? And not a lot of smudges considering what an amateur I am at manicures and pedicures. :)  With just one coat, the nail polish was quite dry after just a minute, but I waited a bit longer just to be sure...

And this is how STRIKING it looks like with my office shoes, haha. My colleague noticed it immediately after I painted my toenails. Warning : don't wear this shade if you're a wallflower!  To be honest, it's a bit toooooo much for me as well. I prefer a deeper shade. Also, I felt that this shade was a bit too "aunty" for me. As proof... my mom absolutely loved this color. She has claimed this nail polish for herself, hahaha.

I would really recommend the Insta-Dri nail polish from Sally Hansen to anyone, but personally -- would try another shade. I like the coverage, the ease of use, the INSTA-DRIness, and after nearly a week, there is NO chipping! Definitely worth your money, considering that this is HALF the price of other nail polishes on the market like OPI, China Glaze, etc.

Monday Masks : Moisutrising Herb Mask from Skinlite

 Monday, May 28, 2012

The Skinlite Moisturising Herb Mask is one of a bunch of cheap masks that I got from Sasa when I was in Hong Kong. I've tried two others ones and blogged about it over here. Today, I'm trying the Moisturising Herb mask, which, from the soothing and pretty packaging, looks like it's filled with lavender. However, upon reading the packaging, it actually contains Pigweed (Portuloca Oleracea), female ginseng (Angelica Acutiloba), white peony, Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus officinalis fruit) and chinese knotweed. Most of these are chinese herbs and are commonly ingested, not made into masks!

I find it a pretty interesting mask - considering that most of the ingredients are more "chinese" and "traditional", not really things that you would find in cosmetics or that you would expect to have anything that can be beneficial when applied dermally. Skinlite claims that these herbs are especially good for dry skin, provides abundant moisturisation and nourishment to the skin and will leave a "silky texture" behind. :)

Having learned from my previous experiences, I was able to adjust the mask accordingly to my face. I think I managed to get a much better fit than I could previously.

I was able to adjust the sheet mask accordingly, but as you can see, there is not really a lot of essence, so  there's already bits of the mask that can't stick closely to the skin even though this picture was taken right after I put it on. After 15 minutes, my skin feels super refreshed and clean, but not really moisturised as what it was supposed to do. However, I do quite like this mask from Skinlite. It smells really nice and soothing, it was a great aromatherapy session in a way. :) Since it's so cheap, it's worth the price, and if I were to buy from Skinlite again, I would definitely get this moisturised herb one again.

Lipstick Sundays : Clarins Gloss Appeal [02]

 Sunday, May 27, 2012

Won this lipgloss some time ago, along with some other nice Clarins goodies. I've been using it on and off as my go-to office lipgloss. I like how natural the pink color is, in fact, I find that it really matches my own natural lip color.

I got it really long ago, so you can see how the stenciling on the packaging is wearing off! To be honest, I'm not even sure if you can still buy it, haha! The packaging looks very simple and classy, with the heavy silvery cap and simple see-through tube. I always regarded this as a very "serious" lip gloss, considering the brandname, the packaging and how it didn't give the shade a fancy name, but just called it "02". A bit boring, really.

It has a simple doe-foot applicator, and the only bad thing about this gloss is probably the fact that it smells a bit funny. A bit too chemical-ly, like medicine! But other than that, the natural shine, the natural color.. it makes it really suitable for work. This 5.5ml tube of lipgloss is really lasting me a long time... very happy with it. :) Am pleasantly surprised with Clarins as I never really thought it was a make-up brand, more for skincare! :)

Me just before I was going for work! See how natural and glossy the lips look? And the color on the lips are a match to what is in the bottle. Good representation. ;P

The top lip is without gloss, only the bottom lip is glossed-up. See how closely the colors matched?

Close-up in case you don't believe. You can see how much gloss and shine the gloss gives? :)

Hahaha, just some regular camwhoring. :) I love how my Olympus camera makes me look!

The Body Shop : Lychee Blossom Shower Gel

 Saturday, May 26, 2012

I really ought to have a "Empties" list to detail what products I finished each month like some of the beauty bloggers do. :) After finishing the Happy Hippy shower gel from Lush, I decided to ((finally)) use one of my many Body Shop shower gels that I get from various sales. This one was bought when I was in Hong Kong, from the Body Shop warehouse store in Tung Chung. I got both the Lychee Blossom shower gel and body lotion (to be reviewed separately).

Lychee Blossom Shower Gel
"Soap-free cleansing and a sparkling energetic scent. With lychee extract and Community Trade honey from organic sources."

The 200ml bottle of shower gel was 50% off. If I remember correctly, I didn't get a chance to smell the product before buying it because it was so~so~so crowded in the store! I just grabbed what I thought WOULD smell nice and which looked pretty, hahaha.

The slightly-yellow clear liquid smells refreshingly fresh at first, but it can get a bit sickeningly sweet. I use a LOT of shower gel when bathing and I can confirm and chop to you that it is realllllllyy sickeningly sweet and overwhelming.... too much lychee and a sweet, sweet floral scent. Thankfully, OUT of the shower, it leaves a very subtle lychee scent, which is just nice. :)

The shower gel has no exfoliation beads, I feel like it's more for perfuming than for squeaky clean-ness. No doubt it does do the cleaning though. A bit regret using this for my morning showers as it doesn't have enough "kick" in it to wake me up. Not a repurchase either as I'm not big on the scent.

The Lust List : New Trends From VS~~

 Thursday, May 24, 2012

My favorite website! Of course I'm tempted whenever they update with this season's trends. Of course I want everything that catches my eye. Of course I'm reaching for my credit card..... stop me!

High-low pleated skirt. High-low skirts /dresses are all the rage now!

T-shirt dresses are casual, cute and cheerful! And they come in a variety of fun prints. Versatile too, I can see me dressing this down for casual outings and accessorising differently to even wear this to work!

I ALWAYS have a soft-spot for peasant-style blouses. I still miss this Padini peasant blouse I used to wear in college. I would still be wearing it now if not for the fact that a bad washing incident made it all splotchy with other colors. Argh, bad memory surfacing...

Feminine bling! The pink sequin top looks so sweet and feminine, so unlike what one would imagine a sequin tee to look like. Too bad I'll have to lose like 8kg if I want to look good in a crop top like this. :(

Embroidered mesh top, subtly sexy.

Super sexy open back lace dresses. I can't decide which one is nicer - the sleeveless one or the long sleeve ones.... And it's so freaking figure hugging...again, motivation for me to lose weight lose weight lose weightttttt

Summer love - lavender, ruffles cotton tube dress. :)

Gone are the days of tight minis - swinging loose skirts can be just as playful and sexy as figure hugging bottoms!

Body Shop Sales

 Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Passed by Body Shop when I was in Midvalley and saw throngs of people flooding the shop! I wanted to join the crowd, but my husband prevented me. Grrr.... he said that it would make him dizzy to join in with everyone. Thankfully, the sale didn't end during the weekend, and I was able to browse a crowd-free Body Shop on a normal Tuesday. :)

But I didn't pick out that much products in the end, only these:

Reason I love Body Shop products? I love the fruity scents, it really fills the entire shower. And the scents are soo... sooo natural. They don't smell fakey like other cheaper products. However, as much as I like Body Shop, I do agree they are pretty pricey. Hence, will not shop there unless they are having sales, heeheehee! :D That, or when I need to get a birthday present for a friend and I don't know what else to get. Admit it, their giftsets make a lovely no-brainer birthday present. You've done that before too. ;)

Two for the price of one. Two 250ml bottles of shower gel for RM22! Pretty alright deal, if I may say so myself. I've used the peach shower gel before and it's perfectly delightful... haven't tried papaya before though!

And a strawberry body butter for 30% off. I've not used Body Shop's body butter long term before - I only tried a bit when I was on vacay with Pauline and she let me try hers. If I remember correctly, it was a ginger one --- very unique. Anyway, I like the texture and it's VERY moisturising. Don't think I have anything strawberry before, so hope this one doesn't disappoint!

Sales go on til 10th June if I'm not mistaken.. I hope even MORE stuff goes on sale! I love their body scrubs!

Lush Noubar Soap

 Tuesday, May 22, 2012

A sample slice of Noubar from Lush courtesy of a lovely sales lady in Hong Kong! I'm a little bit desperate for a last bit of Lush in my shower, having emptied Happy Hippy and all my other soaps. Was so happy when I remembered that I still have this sample. See how small it is? My soap dish looks humongous in comparison. :O

The soap isn't the best smelling thing on earth. I definitely won't buy this soap based on the scent. However, it's a really interesting soap and I'm glad that I got this as a free sample. The soap feels creamy against my skin and really moisturising. It doesn't rinse off with a squeaky clean feeling (my fave), but with the kind of oily, moisturised feeling. The same feeling one would get after using an oil-based cleanser, I guess. I suppose it's because of all the chunks of nuts inside this soap, lots of nut oil or something, hahaha.

In case you think the chopped nuts are really great for exfoliation, it's more like a gentle scrub, a very light massage. You won't feel like there's lots of dead skin being sloughed off. The bits of nuts drop off after a mere two sessions in the shower. It makes me feel like there's huge chunks of soap are being used with each shower. What a waste! :(

The scent that lingers behind on my skin takes a little bit of getting used to, but after a while, I am starting to like it. It's a posh scent that reminds me of green tea actually, but it's really vetivert and rose.

The nuts in the soap? Peanuts, walnuts and pistachios. Pistachio oil is excellent for the skin - it nourishes, softens and hydrates the skin thanks to the vitamins it contains. Used in massage, it is easily absorbed by the skin and gives it a supple and soft nature. As for walnut & peanut oil, can't really find anything of use for it for cosmetic reasons, but apparently it's used for healing certain skin conditions.

Not a repurchase for me in the future though, interesting experiment but not something I would enjoy long term.

Monday Masks : Sweet Honey Mask

 Monday, May 21, 2012

Bought the Naisture Sweet Honey Mask when I was in Singapore, and there was some good bargain going on for Naisture masks in Sasa. Well, like the Strawberry Mask that I blogged about last time, I give it points for the sheet quality and the packaging & creativity (sweet honey! Doesn't that sound tempting to you? It did to me).

The Sweet Honey mask is supposed to soothe irritated and dehydrated skin, especially useful for people with skin showing signs of stress. And all this can be changed... in just 15 minutes. If you believe the hype.

At least the mask did not smell as acidic as the strawberry one, and I really do like the coverage I get with this mask. Look at how snugly covered my nose is in the picture! But of course, really hate how they eyeholes are so big. As with the previous review --- no substantial change after using this mask. Really a disappointment. Am not going to buy anymore Naisture masks in the future!

Lipstick Sundays : Nivea Fruity Shine in Cherry

 Sunday, May 20, 2012

One of my favorite lip balms ever! Only RM6.90 (or cheaper, depending on where you get it and whether there's any promotions) and it is worth every single sen! The Nivea Fruity Shine was picked up on a whim (at that time, everyone was raving about LipIce) and I've never regretted this purchase. In fact, if you were to measure how much stick is left in each of my lipbalms, I think this is the one that is nearest to finishing!

There are a few different "flavors" in the range and each fruit comes in a different shade. I only have Cherry (Dark Red) and Pink Guava (soft pink), but have also been tempted to get Pomegranate (a brownish-red). Withheld myself because I'm just being plain greedy. I solemnly swear to only get a new lip balm when my existing one finishes!

The packaging is simple & straightforward enough - a fat little tube which is pretty nice to hold. :) Each lip balm weighs 4.8g and as I've mentioned - seems to last forever. This deep red shade comes out not-so-deep in reality, and has a touch of glitter. It gives a very pleasant sheen, not unlike a lip gloss - but way, way more moisturising! It is absolutely a comfort on the lips! The cherry scent is not overpowering or "fake/synthetic" smelling, but I guess to each his own. To me, it smells like cherry candy, and not the actual fruit.

Some pictures of me taken on Sunday... was waiting for my husband to take me to church. (Yes, married already but still staying apart.) There was a lot of red in my outfit that day! :P

Close up of the lips ... you can see that it hids my dry lips pretty well, and the red is not really that dark! I am totally a fan of Nivea lipbalms after this wonderful experience. Definitely a repurchase! Didn't I say I'm already looking forward to getting the pomegranate flavor? :) Was also wondering whether I should tag this under Lipstick Sundays or Friday Cheapies.. haha... this is really worth your $$!

Pure Beauty Giftset thanks to Watson's Glow Magazine

 Saturday, May 19, 2012

I blogged about the Watson's GLOW magazine back in December, and I got a call recently saying that I won a Pure Beauty giftset from the magazine! Yay! I love free stuff. :P I even tweeted that I felt like a poor man's version of a famous blogger because I do get free stuff to blog about also, haha. Well on one hand, I'm not obliged to blog about the free stuff I get, but on the other hand, I don't get paid as well as the other bloggers. ^^

Not sure how much the giftset is worth, but I love the packaging it came in. :) It looks so festive and cheerful. :)

Inside the box :

An introduction to the stuff in the box! First up ~ a 100ml tube of Pomegranate Antioxidant 2-in-1 Foam Cleanser. It can be used as both a face cleanser and as a daily mask! Amazing! Really looking forward to trying this out.

Second on the list, we have a 170ml bottle of Pomegranate Antioxidant Toner. I rarely use a toner, in fact I have a 200ml bottle of toner that is only 20% used up! I stopped using toners when a skin specialist told me that toners don't really shrink your pores or anything. ~_~ This one doesn't say anything about shrinking pores, mainly on having an extra dose of antioxidants on your skin and for soothening and brightening the skin. Sounds promising!

Last of all, we have the Pomegranate Antioxidant Gel Cream (30ml) which is a daytime face moisturiser. Comes in a very cute and round container... Love it!!

Yes, definitely looking forward to trying all these things out, but I still haven't even used my Skinz Infinite set that I had won from Cleo. :P :X
